BRUUUNCH

Updated: Mar 14, 2020

The top 5 brunch places in Vancouver that you should visit this weekend.

"Brunch is a breakfast without the alarm."

1. OEB Breakfast Co.

OEB is a Calgary based brunch restaurant located in Yaletown. The spot is quite hidden but it has an amazing scenic view of Yaletown-False Creek while enjoying the food. The top brunch food that you must have is their French Toast Trifle: brioche, Meyer lemon curd, market berries (strawberries and blueberries), pistachios, and torched pavlova. It is TO DIE FOR. It's not too sweet, it's just the perfect taste. A combination of sweet with a hint of sour from the lemon curd.

The second one is the Canadian Eh! Benny's: Canadian back bacon with dark maple syrup or brown butter hollandaise — your pick! Comes with a small plate of fruits, apple, strawberry, orange, kiwi, and grape.

2. JAM Cafe

Jam Cafe is one of the most famous brunch place in Vancouver, located in Beatty Street (near the Stadium-Chinatown Skytrain Station). The place always have a long queuing — from their opening hours 'till closed (8.00 am — 3.00 pm). It's always crowded, even on weekdays. I've been there for five times, and every single time I waited for an hour to have brunch — which was like forever (I know it's only an hour, but we're talking food here). And they don't take reservations, you just have to deal with it.

Despite of the long line up, the food is sooo worth the wait. But there's a solution to the waiting problem, Jam Cafe just recently opened a new location in Kitsilano. The place is much bigger and more convenient, the line up isn't that long too.

My go-to order for the savoury is the Benny's. They have several kind of Benny's but the ones that I like the most are the Smoked Salmon: sliced cold smoked salmon, green onions, onion cream cheese, and crispy capers (you can order in half size) and Pork Belly: fried thick cut pork belly, chives, bacon jam, and Jam Cafe's BBQ sauce (only in full size). For the sweets is the Strawberry Banana French Toast, consist of thick cut brioche topped with fresh bananas and strawberries sautéed in maple butter. I'm drooling, literally. And Dutch Baby! It's an oven baked pancake with lemon curd — substitute of apple and cinnamon. It's not the basic pancake, it's a literal fluffy cake in a pan.

3. MEDINA

"Café Medina doesn’t simply serve food — Kane (the owner) and his staff pride themselves on feeding the soul of each and every guest and providing them with sustenance in every way, shape and form."

Café Medina is located in Library District, Vancouver. They offer Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, connosseiur-savvy coffee, and sweet livelihood of Vancouver's best Belgian waffles topped with unique toppings. Medina's architecture and interior design are another reason why people love to go, they're classy but comfortable.

The must order food is definitely the Belgian waffles. I always order their Liège waffles with dark chocolate. Simple, eh? Because I don't like too much toppings on my waffles. I like it classic. The next one will be Saumon Fumé: 1 sunny egg, smoked wild salmon cream cheese, avocado, red onion jam, pickled peppers, arugula, and grilled focaccia. I never try this one, but my friend said c'est bon — Fricassée Champignon: 2 sunny eggs, organic king oyster, blue oyster and Cremini mushrooms, roasted potatoes, mushroom Demi Glace, chèvre, arugula, and grilled focaccia.

4. Catch 122 Café Bistro

If you are craving for something savoury, but you also want something sweet and cannot decide which one you should go for, Chicken and Waffle it is! Catch 122 has the best Chicken and Waffle. I just can't describe how good it is. The way they cook the chicken is indescribable.

Catch 122 is located in 122 W Hastings Street Vancouver — about 5 minutes walk from Stadium-Chinatown Skytrain Station. Easy access to satisfy your craving!
