Best Ice Cream in Vancouver

Updated: Mar 15, 2020

"Ice cream in Raincouver? Duh, yes please!"

Even though weather in Vancouver can be really gross — raining and super cold 24/7, we still eat cold desserts because we just love 'em.

Here is my go to list when craving for ice cream/gelato:

1. Earnest Ice Cream

Earnest Ice Cream has few franchise in Vancouver, there's one in Frances St (take out only), North Van, Fraser St, and Quebec St (Main St). They open at 12.00pm — 10.00pm, so you got plenty of time to go fulfill your craving! This is one of my favourite ice cream place because their ice cream isn't too milky, not easy to melt, and not too sweet. They also have vegan option. Thumbs up for that because lots of people in Vancouver are vegan. Earnest offer range of unique yet delicious flavours rotating each month: Butter Pecan, Cartems Donut + Coffee, Honey Camomile, Irish Cream, Peanut Butter + Jam, and many more — also their classic flavours:

My top three favourite flavours of the classics are Cookies + Cream, Milk Chocolate, and last but not least Whiskey Hazelnut. I'm not sure why, but for some reason even though Earnest always has new exciting flavours, I always order or go back to my top three classics. Vegan option doesn't have as many flavours as the non-vegan one, but there are various flavours too. My friend (she's vegan) said that the best flavours for vegan are Cookies + Cream and Moja Almond Mylk Latte.

2. Bella Gelateria

Before I tell you my reasons why this gelato is the best one in Vancouver, let me tell you what's the difference between ice cream and gelato:

Bella Gelateria are made fresh in-house. That's one of the reason why I love the gelato at this place, it's always fresh served. They don't use any artificial flavours nor colours because their flavours can only be made with real, fresh berries from Krause Farms in order for it to be good and healthy.

The gelato are made with Effi machines, which are imported from Italy — the first in Vancouver! On top of that, the gelato are always made in small batches, never in bulk or stored for months because Bella Gelateria wants to serve that their customers are eating it as freshly as possible.

There are several favourite flavours that I have, Earl Grey, Wickedly Burnt Caramel, Fior di Latte, Nutella, and Yuzu Citrus. Some of the flavours are too sweet in my opinion. If you want the less sweet ones, try ordering the Sorbetto or flavour like Wickedly Burnt Caramel. Unfortunately, Bella Gelateria isn't vegan friendly since all the gelato contains milk.

3. Mister — Artisan Ice Cream

Mister is known for its liquid nitrogen ice cream, located in the heart of Yaletown.
